How We Met
Anjana and Henri met for the first time in the UK where they were both working. She was employed at the Jaguar Land Rover company and he worked for a French firm. They hit it off from their first meeting itself and slowly their friendship evolved into a romance, and they tied the knot in June this year in Bangalore.
Henri’s marriage proposal was based on his confidence. He told Anjana, “You have no choice but to say yes to me because your mum loves me!” Needless to say, she agreed to his proposal of marriage.
Since the wedding was to take place in India, the couple decided on hosting the celebrations at the Vivanta by Taj hotel in Bangalore. The contemporary interiors of the hotel appealed to the couple’s sophisticated tastes and its multiple spaces lent themselves to the varied moods of the diverse wedding events.
Anjana and Henri’s mehendi was all about pop colors and ethnic flavors. For this quirky affair, the venue was decorated with ‘meenakari’ (colorful metallic) umbrellas, ‘matkas; (pots) and picture perfect rainbow hues. hues of the rainbow. The guests loved the festive ambiance, and this lively event served as an ideal start for the rest of the ceremonies.
“I wanted a small wedding with just the right people, and Henri was also very keen on following the Tamil-Brahmin rituals,” shares Anjana. Henri and she believe in the ‘less is more’ philosophy and were keen on a minimalist wedding. The morning wedding ceremony was conducted according to South Indian rituals. Anjana wore a ‘madisar’ (traditional Tamil way of wearing a saree for festive occasions), while Henri donned a ‘panchagajam’ (a traditional five-yard Tamil dhoti).
Henri’s side of the family wore beautiful kanjeevaram sarees and dhotis, and their effort to be a part of the authentic South Indian wedding was appreciated by everyone. Anjana shares, “It is very rare to witness people from a different part of the world immersing themselves in Indian culture this way. It was delightful to see their support and enthusiasm.” The evocative music from the classic ‘nadaswaram’ (classical wind instrument of South India) played in the background as Anjana and Henri tied the knot.
