Where to save and where to Splurge

Choose what not to choose

Avoid unnecessary expenses in a wedding by choosing right things.

Wedding season is round the corner and the preparations have begun. While India is known for lavish weddings, there are some who would prefer to spend economically for this event. We totally love an elaborate wedding but believe equally in using economic ways of planning a wedding. While the obvious list of expenses are known to everyone, our wedding experts have a prepared a list of things which appear trivial but can add or control your expenses.

Commonly ignored expenses which should not be discounted:

A good photographer: Wedding is an occasion which one cherishes for lifelong. In such a case, it becomes very important that the memories are captured beautifully and artistically. Even a simple wedding can be made to look very special through photography and even the most exuberant wedding can appear substandard if it is not captured properly. A professional wedding photographer is something one should not overlook.

Great hosting: This one is the most commonly ignored part of a wedding. Wedding is basically an opportunity to announce the union of two people and seek blessings from the near and dear ones.  This purpose gets defeated when people ignore the quality of hosting and treatment of the guests present in the wedding. Cutting down on accommodation expenses, venue management and baraat preparation is a big No No.

Not hiring a coordinator: It is the most argued question if hiring a coordinator for the big day is an expensive affair. An external and professional help can not only save your time and effort but their experience and knowledge can help you in avoiding unnecessary expenses.

Expenses which can be controlled:

Spending extensively in outfits: Believe it or not, outfits form a major chunk of the wedding expenses. Especially when it comes to bride. In a typical Indian wedding the average number of functions range from 4-5. Spending lavishly on each outfit is a common mistake. Instead, experiment and revisit your wardrobe to revive your existing collection to create something new out of it. Kanchipuram lehangas out of old sarees, Crop blouses from old kurtis, let your imagination fly. Options are endless.

Flashy Invitation Cards: Today, it is all about being creative and experimental with the invitation card ideas. Gone are the days when wedding cards used to be flashy and an indication of the quality of the wedding ahead. Now the focus has shifted to how innovative your wedding card is and whether it manages to look a class apart.

Multiple venues for different events: Having multiple venues for different events results in an increase in commuting, transportation and arrangement costs. This also results in wastage of time and eventually delay in ritual timings. Having 1-2 venues for all major events helps in planning and saving up.

Planning could be a hectic activity and ending up spending more than the budget becomes stressful. While these things look frivolous, can make a huge difference to the budget! Let us know your ways of saving up!
